In January 2022 we introduced to you the Master Plan.
Fast forward 12 months we are now gearing up to deliver on the Master.
This presents a very exciting period for our School as we now get to enhance the site to better meet our needs and support our growth.
This scope of capital works planned includes:
- constructing an additional classroom and office space;
- increasing storage capacity;
- re-configuring the bathroom facilities to be more fit for purpose;
- expanding the kitchen;
- Improving the accessibility and circulation at the school site; and
- reconfiguring the entrance for enhanced safety and security.
To date we’ve been calling this project ‘the Capital Works Project’. Whilst factually correct, it’s been a bit dry and not representative of who we truly are at Fitra. So we embarked on a process with the children to name the project and we settled on calling it The ‘Be Like the Bird’ Project.
Quirky? Abstract? Unorthodox? A Mouthful?
Yes, I agree, it is all of the above. However there are multiple dimensions to this name and in them we find its relevance. Let me explain.
Birds are known for building their own nests and this is in essence what we are seeking to do with this project. We moved into what was an old kindergarten site. It has served us well whilst we had lower student numbers – but as we grow there’s absolutely a need to make it ours. Like the bird, we need to build our nest.
Allah says in Surah Mulk, Ayah 19:
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍۢ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۭ بَصِيرٌ ١٩
Have they not seen the birds above them, spreading and folding their wings? None holds them up except the Most Compassionate. Indeed, He is All-Seeing of everything.
We are an Allah First school.
We exist to see our children soar up high like the birds, and we know that it is none other than Allah who will allow them to reach the heights we aspire to.
This project is about us playing our part towards creating the environment that will help our children fly high like the bird. Relying always on the Most Compassionate, the All Seeing.
At a recent Jummuah at the School we discussed the following hadith of the Prophet (s):
“If you put your trust in Allah the way He deserves, He will provide for you as he provides for the birds. They leave in the morning with an empty stomach and return in the afternoon with a full one.” [At-Tirmidhi, 2344 who graded it as hasan saheeh]
We realised that ever since we started out on the quest to establish the School we have had to be like the birds. We would not be where we are today without Allah opening doors for us.
For this project too we have the vision, but we are reliant on Allah to send us the means. We are going out there with confidence and full knowledge that if we remain sincere Allah will send us from His bounties to help us build our nest.
So we invite you to join us to Be Like the Bird.
